How to play Crossword

The goal

Playing

• Tap a square to select it, then type. The highlighted squares show the word you’re filling in, and its clue is shown above the grid.
• Tap the selected square again (or the clue above the grid) to switch between Across and Down.
• Tap any clue in the list to jump to its word. Filled-in clues fade.
• On a keyboard: arrow keys move, Tab and Shift+Tab go to the next or previous clue, Space switches direction and Backspace erases.

Help

• The settings (gear) button opens Check, Reveal and Give up. Check marks wrong letters in red, in the selected square, word or the whole puzzle.
• Reveal fills in the right letters (shown in red) and locks them. The eye button above the grid reveals just the selected square.
• Give up reveals the whole puzzle. It counts as a loss.
• In the same menu, turn on “Show correct words” to have each finished word turn green and lock, so it can’t be erased by accident. Revealed letters always stay red.

Sizes

• Choose 5×5 or 7×7 for a quick mini, or 10×10, 15×15 or 20×20 for more words.
• Each size keeps its own puzzle, so you can switch between them and come back.
• A new puzzle unlocks once you’ve solved (or given up on) the current one for that size.

Themes

• Tap New puzzle to open the theme menu: Movies & TV, Video games, Music, Sports, Everyday words, or a Mix of everything. Picking one starts the puzzle.
• Most answers come from that theme; everyday words fill in where the words cross. The theme is shown at the top of the screen, and the menu remembers your last pick.
