Pyramid Solitaire strategy: how to clear the pyramid

Clear more pyramids: know every pair that makes 13, uncover the cards that block the most, and use the draw pile and stock passes wisely.
Play Pyramid
In Pyramid you remove pairs of cards that add up to 13, and Kings on their own. Clear all 28 cards of the pyramid to win. It looks simple, but the order you remove pairs in decides most games.

Know your pairs

Ace is 1, Jack 11, Queen 12 and King 13. The pairs are A+Q, 2+J, 3+10, 4+9, 5+8 and 6+7, and a King goes by itself. Knowing them by heart lets you spot moves instantly.

Work down toward the blocked cards

A pyramid card is only free once both cards covering it are gone. Before removing a pair, check what it uncovers: prefer pairs that free cards in rows with many blocked cards, rather than pairs that only clear the edges.

Don’t waste a card you’ll need

There are four of each card. If a 6 in the pyramid needs a 7, and one 7 is buried where it frees nothing, save the draw pile’s 7 for the pyramid rather than pairing it with another loose 6.

Use the draw pile and stock carefully

  • The top card of the draw pile can pair with a pyramid card, which is often the only way to free a stubborn card.
  • Easy lets you go through the stock as often as you like, Normal gives three passes and Hard only one. On Hard, count what’s left in the stock before you turn cards.

Score

Each pair or King is worth 5, each cleared row 25, and clearing the whole pyramid 500. Clearing it matters far more than anything else, so play for the win first.
