How to Play Bridges

Learn the rules of Bridges, the island-connecting logic puzzle, plus the key deductions that solve every grid without guessing.
Play Bridges
Bridges is a calm logic puzzle: a grid of numbered islands that you join with straight bridges until every island has its number and the whole map is one connected network. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, and you can always reach it by reasoning.

The rules

  • Each island shows how many bridges must end there.
  • Bridges run straight across or straight down, from one island to the next island along that line.
  • Two islands can be joined by one bridge or two, never more.
  • Bridges can’t cross each other or pass over an island.
  • When you’re finished, every island must be reachable from every other over the bridges.

How to build bridges

Drag from an island toward its neighbor to add a bridge. Do it again for a double bridge, and once more to remove them. You can also tap the gap between two islands, or tap one island and then its neighbor.
An island turns green when it has exactly its number of bridges and red if it has too many. Undo takes back your last change. On a keyboard, the arrow keys move between islands and Shift+arrow builds a bridge in that direction.

Easy first moves

  • An island with only one neighbor sends all its bridges there.
  • Count the neighbors: a 4 with two neighbors, a 6 with three, or an 8 with four needs double bridges on every side.
  • One less works too: a 3 with two neighbors, a 5 with three, or a 7 with four needs at least one bridge to each.
  • Once an island is full, every other path from it is closed, which often cuts the options for its neighbors.

Keep everything connected

The rule that every island must link up is a powerful clue. Two 1s can never join each other, because that pair would be finished and cut off from the rest. For the same reason, two 2s can’t share a double bridge.
More generally, watch for any small group that would become complete on its own. If closing it off would strand it, the remaining bridge has to go somewhere else.

Difficulty levels

Easy is a 7×7 grid with 12 islands that can be solved one simple step at a time. Normal is 9×9 with 20 islands and sometimes asks you to think one move ahead. Hard is 11×11 with 30 islands. Every puzzle is freshly made and has exactly one solution, and your best time is kept for each level.
