Play Peg Solitaire

The goal

Jump pegs over each other, removing each peg you jump, until only one peg is left on the board.

Jumping

  • A peg jumps over a peg right next to it into the empty hole just beyond. The peg it jumps over is removed.
  • On the English and European boards pegs jump up, down, left or right, never diagonally. On the triangle they jump along any of its three directions.
  • Tap a peg to pick it up (the holes it can reach light up), then tap the hole. Or drag the peg there.
  • On a keyboard, move the ring with the arrow keys and press Enter or Space to pick up and jump.

Winning

  • Clear the board down to one peg to win. Ending in the hole that started empty is the classic finish.
  • If no peg can jump, the game is over. Undo to try another way, or start again.
  • Undo takes back jumps one at a time. Restart puts every peg back.

Hints

  • Hint shows a jump that still leads to one peg, if one can be found.
  • If one peg is out of reach from where you are, the hint says so and shows the jump that leaves the fewest pegs.

Boards and records

  • Triangle (15 holes) is a quick game. English (33 holes) is the classic. European (37 holes) is harder.
  • Your best time for clearing each board is kept, along with the fewest pegs you’ve left on it.
