Play Minesweeper

The goal

Open every square that doesn’t hide a mine. Numbers tell you how many mines touch each square.

Playing

  • Tap a square to open it. Your first tap is always safe.
  • A number shows how many of the eight squares around it hold mines. An empty square opens the area around it for you.
  • Open a mine and the game is over.

Flags

  • Long-press a square to flag a mine you’ve found. Flagged squares can’t be opened by accident.
  • Or switch to Flag under the board, and every tap flags until you switch back to Dig.
  • The Mines count at the top is the number of mines left once your flags are taken off.

Faster clearing

  • Tap an open number once all its mines are flagged, and every other square around it opens at once.
  • If a flag is wrong, that can set off a mine, so be sure first.

Difficulty

  • Easy: 9×9 with 10 mines. Medium: 16×16 with 40. Hard: 16×30 with 99.
  • On a phone, pinch the board to zoom in. Your best times are kept separately for each difficulty.
