Call trump with your partner and take three tricks.
Play Euchre

The goal

You and your computer partner (across the table) play against two computer opponents. Win tricks after your team names trump, and be the first team to 10 points.

The deck and the deal

  • Euchre uses 24 cards: 9, 10, J, Q, K and A of each suit.
  • Everyone gets 5 cards. One more card is turned face up in the middle: the upcard.
  • The deal moves one seat to the left each hand.

Naming trump

  • Round one: starting left of the dealer, each player can order up the upcard (making its suit trump) or pass. If someone orders it up, the dealer picks it up and discards a card.
  • Round two: if all four pass, the upcard is turned down. Each player can now name any other suit as trump, or pass.
  • With "Stick the dealer" on, the dealer must name trump if everyone else passes again. With "Redeal", the hand is thrown in and the next player deals.
  • The team that names trump are the makers; the other team are the defenders.

Card ranks

  • The jack of trump (the right bower) is the highest card, then the other jack of the same color (the left bower), then A, K, Q, 10, 9 of trump.
  • The left bower counts as a trump, not as its printed suit. With hearts trump, the jack of diamonds is a heart.
  • In other suits, cards rank A, K, Q, J, 10, 9.

Playing tricks

  • The player left of the dealer leads first. You must follow the suit led if you can; otherwise play any card, including a trump.
  • The highest trump wins the trick, or the highest card of the suit led if no trump was played. The winner leads next.
  • Tap one of your cards to play it. Cards you can play are outlined; the others are faded.

Going alone

  • When you order up or name trump you can choose to go alone: your partner sits out and you play three against two.
  • If your partner goes alone, you sit out that hand.

Scoring

  • Makers who take 3 or 4 tricks score 1 point. Taking all 5 (a march) scores 2, or 4 when going alone.
  • Makers who take fewer than 3 tricks are euchred: the defenders score 2.
  • The score sheet appears after each hand. The first team to 10 points wins.

Controls

  • Undo takes back your last bid or card, and everything the computer did after it.
  • Easy opponents bid loosely and make mistakes; normal ones count cards; hard ones bid sharply, go alone with strong hands and plan each trick. Your partner always plays well.
